Swift Glass is our source for thin, soda-lime mirror blanks.
Quite often we have clients who want thinner mirrors for faster cooling times. We also have requests for soda-lime (plate glass) mirrors to keep costs a little lower. Our supplier for thin borosolicate blanks and for plate glass blanks is Swift Glass, a great company in Elmira, NY.
Swift Glass has been a terrific company to work with. They are just about as fast at delivering round glass as anyone could be. They commonly beat their own delivery time quotes! You have to love a company that under-promises and over-delivers!
But the thing I like best about Swift Glass is the quality of the product. Their mirror blanks are absolutely gorgeous! From the appearance of their edges, they use a computerized waterjet machine to cut their blanks. But these blanks come out flawless every time. On many waterjet blanks we've gotten from other sources, you often see a slight defect where the waterjet abrasive stream first touches the glass. It will be a little "inny" or "outy" depending on the machine, the method and the operator. But with every blank from Swift Glass, the edge is absolutely perfect. There are no defects!
And the faces of the blanks are always pristine. If you want to start with a pretty blank, Swift Glass is the place to go. No scratches, no nicks, just two perfect glass faces. I'll happily recommend these folks to anybody that needs thin blanks.
