Almost all Waite Research mirrors go to Jeff Decker's shop, Majestic Coatings, to have aluminum and SiO2 applied. The slideshow at left shows photos of Jeff's shop, including some of his work areas, and two of his coating machines. I am very lucky to have Jeff so close. We are both in New Jersey, just a quick 40 minute drive apart on the Garden State Parkway.
I always appreciate that the short trip to Jeff's business is convenient. I can take a mirror up for coating as soon as it is finished, and picking up finished pieces is a breeze. And if you've followed any of the forums on Amateur Telescope Making (ATM) you'll know that Jeff has a terrific reputation. You can find all kinds testimonials about the speed and quality of Jeff's service. It is seldom that it takes more than two days for Jeff to turn around a coated mirror for me. And even when you ship a mirror through normal channels, Jeff usually manages to get your mirror back into your hands in around a week. This is the kind of service that helps make coatings one less thing to worry about.
Over the years, Jeff has done countless favors for me, from emergency coatings to professional evaluations of problem mirrors. I value his help and his many long years of friendship, and I recommend his coating services without reservation.
